दिवाली से एक दिन पहले मनाए जाने वाले इस पर्व को छोटी दिवाली या नरक चतुर्दशी या रूप चौदस या काली चतुर्दशी के नाम से भी जाना जाता है। नरक चतुर्दशी का पर्व 11 नवंबर 2023 दिन बुधवार को है। नरक चतुर्दशी के दिन व्रत करने से भगवान श्रीकृष्ण व्यक्ति को सौंदर्य प्रदान करते हैं। रूप चतुर्दशी के दिन सुबह सूरज उगने से पहले उठकर तिल के तेल की मालिश और पानी में चिरचिरी के पत्ते डालकर उस पानी से नहाना चाहिए। मान्यता ये है कि इस दिन सुबह स्नान करके भगवान विष्णु और भगवान कृष्ण की पूजा करना उत्तम होता है। संध्या के समय यमराज की पूजा और दीप दान करने से नर्क के यातनाओं और अकाल मृत्यु का भय नहीं रहता है। इस कारण भी नरक चतुर्दशी के दिन दीनदान और पूजा का विधान है। छोटी दिवाली के दिन रात में घर के बुजुर्ग पूरे घर में दिया जलाते हैं इसे पूरे घर में घुमाते हैं। इसके बाद इस दीये को घर से कहीं दूर छोड़ आते हैं। ऐसा करने से घर की सभी बुरी शक्तियां और नेगेटिव एनर्जी बाहर हो जाती है। इस दिन मां काली की आराधना का विशेष महत्व होता है। काली मां के आर्श‍िवाद से शत्रुओं पर विजय प्राप्त करने में सफलता मिलती है। अधिकतर जगहों पर रूप चतुर्दशी का पर्व यमराज के प्रति दीप प्रज्जवलित कर, यम के प्रति आस्था प्रकट करने के लिए मनाया जाता है, लेकिन बंगाल में मां काली के जन्मदिन के रूप में भी मनाया जाता है, जिसके कारण इस दिन को काली चौदस और काली पूजा कहा जाता है। This festival celebrated one day before Diwali is also known as Chhoti Diwali or Narak Chaturdashi or Roop Chaudas or Kali Chaturdashi.
